and Patterns

Volume 5 of the Yearbook of International Organizations contains statistical tables generated from the data in Volumes 1-4 (the most basic tables continue to appear in these Volumes). Tables show organizations by type, country and field of activity distinguishing between non-governmental (NGO) and governmental organizations (IGO); historical trends over time; international organizations' meetings distribution; and relationships and networks between organizations.

These statistical data are shown in standard graphical formats: pie charts, graphs and distributions. Representations of non-quantitative relationships and patterns between organizations, problems and strategies are provided in the form of organization charts, network maps, concept maps and distribution maps. All work for Volume 5 is part of UIA's ongoing provision of statistical research and alternative representations of information.

Volume 5 statistics include:

  • Types of international organizations (with historical development)
  • Countries where secretariats are located and where organizations are active (with historical development)
  • Subject clustering of international organizations by type (with historical development and region/subject combinations)
  • Recent and historical data on languages, staff, budgets and member categories
  • Current and historical statistics on the geographical distribution of international organizations' meetings; meeting size and associated exhibitions; and meetings by organization and subject type from the separate UIA publication the International Congress Calendar)
  • Organizational problems, strategies and values, and relationships between organizations, as profiled in the UIA publication Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential
