Launch of new Yearbook of International Organizations Online interface
We are pleased to announce the launch, as of 26 April, of the new Yearbook of International Organizations Online (YBIO) interface, brought to you in close partnership between the Union of International Associations (UIA) and Brill, which has taken on publication of the Yearbook as of 2011.
The new interface is available at: http://ybio.brillonline.nl. To ensure uninterrupted service, the current platform will be maintained for a brief overlapping period.
Description
Complete with new search, navigation and browsing capabilities, and a contemporary design, the database offers the same comprehensive content with an enhanced user experience. For the past eleven years, the previous version has been continually updated according to user feedback. The completely new interface is built on the solid foundations of a powerful and very flexible open-source content management system and represents a dramatic platform overall based on the latest available technology. Furthermore, it is tightly integrated with Brill's proven user authentication and usage statistics system.
Once you have accessed the content you will notice the following tabs:
Organizations: this is the most important and traditionally most used area that allows searching the database of international organizations.
Geography: this is not a search, but a browsing tool that allows drilling down from continents to cities and selecting organizations that have headquarters there. Clicking arrows moves you up/down the levels, clicking the text does the search.
Subjects: also a browsing / drill-down tool of UIA's 3-level subject matrix.
Bibliography: search interface for publications by and about international organizations.
Statistics: browsing interface containing PDF documents, special because it also contains historical data.
Who's Who: search interface for biographies of international organizations personalities.
Logotypes: this is a simple but visually interesting browsing tool. Mouseovers on the images show each organization's English name and acronym. Clicking a logo brings you to the profile of that organization.
IGO Search: this functionality is unique – allowing a search of the content of all websites of some of the international organizations whose profiles UIA researches, namely of the inter-governmental organizations. These typically are large organizations that are visible on the web but UIA is in an unique position to indentify the entire set and provide their website content search in one place.
Each of the search interfaces also offer data export in three different formats.
Usage Statistics: The new platform will allow you to access and generate your own user statistics reports on demand.
User guide: An online user guide has been added, which can enhance your user experience. Yellow help bubbles appear when hovering above any of the search fields.
