"Since the yearbook is edited by the Union of International [Associations], it has the stamp of authority." - Yearbook review

YEARBOOK OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS 1992/1993, EDITED BY THE UNION OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. New Providence, NJ: K. G. Saur, 1992. 28tj edition. (v. 2-3, 9th edition). 3 v. ISBN 3-598-22212-2 $825.

These two sets give access to a great deal of information about international organizations. With over twice the pages and nearly twice the price, the Saur set has much more information. In addition to the detailed entries, the Saur set has a complicated classified arrangement and plenty of exceptions to challenge the reader. If you need extra detail such as the actual names of member countries of international organizations, then the yearbook is the place to look. Since the yearbook is edited by the Union of International [Associations], it has the stamp of authority. The social science dcontent of both sets is high. The Gale volume lists some 13,000 international organizations in a straightforward familiar fashion that should be adequate for the average inquiry. More specific subject access is given by the keyword index as well as the very sensible keyword entry in the basic listing. With a growing global world, the social science librarian should know about both volumes and purchase or know about the whereabouts of one or the other.
