"...is a comprehensive overview of the range and network of preoccupations and activities of international organizations" - Yearbook vol 3 review
Yearbook of International Organizations 1987/88. Edited by Union of International Associations. Volume 3: Global Action Networks; Classified Directory by subject and region, 5th Edition. München etc., K.G. Saur Verlag, 1988. 1450 p., DM 428/- (Volumes 1-3 DM 1280).
'Volume 3' is a comprehensive overview of the range and network of preoccupations and activities of international organizations - also organized by subject and by region. Similar to a commercial "yellow pages" directory, it groups international and regional bodies under 3,500 categories of common concerns, aims and activities. Organized into the four main sections outlined below, 'Global Action Networks' complements the main organization entries of 'Volume 1' by re-grouping organizations into all those categories appropriate to their stated interests. In addition, organizations are also grouped here with multilateral treaties and with those world problems identified in a given subject. (Problems here are cross-referenced to the 'Encylopedia of World Problems and Human Potential' where more detail is available). A unique coding system highlights the network of relationships between subject areas and serves to integrate the functions of organizations with the subject of their activities. Such information suggests possibilities for the development of new and greater contacts between organizations.
