UNESCO customized Database of Non-Governmental Organizations

In order to facilitate the work of the UNESCO Section for Non-Governmental Organizations – Sector for External Relations – the Union of International Associations (UIA) has been entrusted, as of 2009, with the creation and maintenance of a customized database of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foundations and similar institutions enjoying official relations with UNESCO.

The NGOs maintained in the database

Recognizing the important role of NGOs and foundations in international cooperation, and in pursuing its strategic objectives, UNESCO has established a formal framework within which it maintains cooperative relations with a number of organizations working in its fields of competence. These relations take the form of 'Operational relations', 'Formal relations' and 'Foundations', and are designed, on the one hand, to enable UNESCO to secure advice, technical cooperation and documentation from non-governmental organizations and, on the other, to enable such organizations, which represent important sections of public opinion, to express the views of their members. The database is freely accessible to the general public, and contains the fully searchable profiles in English and French of the above mentioned organizations, as well as the contact details of their institutional members. To access the database, visit http://ngo-db.unesco.org/.
