World problems and global issues
The World Problems and Global Issues section of the Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential it is an ongoing attempt to provide profiles of, and map relationships between, ALL the problems humanity faces, in the hopes that a more comprehensive understanding would greatly enhance our ability to deal with these challenges.
For instance, if you've ever wondered what the definition, causes and effects are of a randomly selected global problem like, say, piracy, then look no further... Piracy can range from attacks on refugee boats, theft of cargoes, and seizure of ships. This particular problem is aggravated by territorial disputes between states and the overpopulation of shipping vessels, according to the International Chamber of Commerce. Piracy in turn aggravates the problems of human torture, homicide, obstacles for international ocean shipping, refugees by boat, oil spillages and cargo insecurity. Another related problem is the unjustified arrest of seagoing ships...
The World Problems and Global Issues section of the Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential details this problem and over 56,000 others and the 250,000 relationships between them - from Absentmindedness, AIDS and Avalanches, to Xenophobia, Youth Unemployment and Zoonotic Bacterial Diseases. The problems and issues presented are those recognized by over 20,000 international organizations including IGOs, NGOs and other bodies (profiled in the Yearbook of International Organizations). Some of the problems may be recognized by many organizations, others may only be recognized by loose networks, movements or isolated groups of experts.
